glad midsommar!

Hi guys!

{First, I'm so sorry for not posting yesterday. It was one of those days that just got away from me! How about I make it up to you with a post just bursting with photos of my beautiful friends and food? Sound good?? Alright, let's do this.}

Last weekend, as I mentioned, was Midsummer! Even though I was not in Sweden this year, I still wanted to celebrate, and decided to invite my friends to a Midsummer picnic/cookout in the park. Midsummer marks the longest day of the year, or the summer solstice, and is one of the most important holidays of the year in Sweden. There, we celebrate by raising and dancing around a maypole (a midsommarstång), sipping schnapps and beer, singing drinking songs, wearing crowns of wildflowers, and eating potatoes, fish, and the first strawberries of the season. In short, it's AWESOME, and I couldn't wait to share the day with my US friends.

In typical Swedish fashion, the weather was entirely unpredictable, and we experienced moments of sun, thunder, and droplets.

But no matter! We soldiered on, as only the Swedes would.

The spread included: herbed potato salad, dill + mustard cucumber salad, mini franks, smoked salmon with mustard sauce, Italian omelets, fruit, kladdkaka (Swedish mud cake), lemon drizzle cake, and bratwursts!

Of course, the boys got straight to work on the grill ^^

...while the ladies worked on the food, their flower crowns, and looking cute ^^

Once the food was all ready, it was time to dig in!

 The rest of the afternoon was spent eating, drinking, and being silly.

We made it home just before a torrential downpour, where I promptly fell asleep on the couch in my flower crown. In other words, a perfect Saturday!

Thanks to all my lovely friends for making Midsummer feel like home  You guys are the best!

Puss och kram,
{kisses and hugs}

Lena
